Whittier Neighborhood and San Rafael Historic District
By Jim L. Raughton, Photography by Frank Ooms

Discover the fascinating history of Northeast Denver’s Whittier and San Rafael Neighborhoods.

A. Morris Stuckert, a prominent Denver architect, built this house at 2080 Clarkson Street in 1888.  Stuckert is best known for his 1891 design of Denver’s first “skyscraper”, the Kittredge Building.  He leased the home to George Crater from 1889 to 1892.  Crated owned an insurance agency in Colorado.  The home is an outstanding example of Queen Anne style, with multiple front gables, decorative shingles, a rusticated stone foundation, and stained-glass front windows.
