Northwest Congress Park Neighborhood
By Rhonda Beck &Diane Gordon, Photography by Frank Ooms

An intimate look at the mix of classic and eclectic architecture and rich history of the oldest section of the Congress Park Neighborhood.

This “territorial style” home at 1470 Elizabeth Street, an unusual Denver Square with Mission Revival-style parapet, was built in 1900 by Charles K. Phillipps, Esq., a prominent Colorado attorney. Charles Phillipps purchased the land at the north end of the block from the original owner, John Corbit, in the fall of 1892. Phillips also owned lots on the northwest corner of 14th and Clayton Street until the turn of the century.
